Description

This 4,615 square foot retail store for Sherwin Williams features over 5,000 square feet of exterior ICF wall and a Super Floor suspended concrete system for the roof. Development for this project included industry leaders including NRMCA members, BuildBlock Building Systems and Dolese Bros Co, alongside Super Floor USA, AC Owen Construction, KBA Constructors, and RB Concrete. The project features BuildBlock ICFs, the Super Floor USA flooring system, and concrete supplied by Dolese.
The project was contracted by AC Owen who subbed KBA Contractors for the ICF install and RB Concrete for the Super Floor concrete pour. This project was KBA Contractor's first experience installing ICFs and their team was able to learn ICF installation very quickly. Construction on this project began in mid April last year and was fully finished by the end of August.

Evidence

This project won 2nd runner up in the ICF Builder Magazine's 2025 ICF Builder Awards for the Light Commercial category. This project was used specifically to highlight the ICF's integration with innovative products such as Super Floor, to build energy efficient, resilient, and sustainable structures at a cost-effective price by using concrete. The other materials that were considered for use were steel stud walls with a composite concrete flooring/roofing system. However, during the project planning, BuildBlock provided design recommendations for using ICFs with the Super Floor system that proved lower costs and greater benefits for construction and end use.
During construction, BuildBlock hosted an AIA credited course onsite and invited architects, designers, engineers, builders, industry leaders, and decision makers from across Oklahoma and the surrounding states to attend. BuildBlock used this opportunity to discuss ICF and concrete construction, benefits, and cost-effectiveness, all while inside an active ICF jobsite.
