Project Name
Jackson Residence

Description
The sprawling Jackson Residence in Brownsboro, Alabama prioritized durability, accessibility and indoor-outdoor living. Characterized by its classic architecture and panoramic views, the three-story, 9,000 sq. ft. home had all its exterior walls built with Insulated Concrete Forms from Nudura and wrap-around covered cemented porches and balconies.
Arches are a central theme across this home’s design. The lanai has 5 concrete arches that open to the side and back yards, while the ground floor back porch has 8 more arches to set the focal point on the outdoor spaces, including the pool, deck and pond. All of these architectural features were achieved with concrete construction.
The kitchen features an interior 20-foot ICF wall with daylight windows at the top, while the home theater was constructed with 3 interior walls of ICFs which help substantially with the acoustics and soundproofing. An elevator helps to move through all three levels more easily.
Due to the nature of this tornado-prone region, a ventilated safe room with interior ICF walls and steel doors was included in the design for added protection. Similarly, the garage doors are rated highly for storm and wind resistance.
The decking did create some complications with the free-floating deck and the double deck ICF porch. There were also the cantilevered ICF walls over the garage and the 20-foot wall structure both requiring care in providing the right support, especially during the pouring stage. With the contractor’s experience in ICF construction and accessibility to Nudura’s sales and technical team, these challenges were overcome with beautiful results.
Evidence
In seeking a disaster-resilient house in Tornado Alley, the owners and design/build team did not expect the home’s structural integrity to be put to the test before they were even finished. Multiple tornados hit the property in the later months of construction, but the home was left unharmed, while more than 30 large trees nearby were ripped from the ground. This case study helps to showcase the life safety benefits of ICF construction in this region to drive future homes to be built with the same durability that only comes with concrete. This home will also be receiving a FORTIFIED Gold certification from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS).
The gorgeous aesthetic and customization achieved by designing and building with ICFs also highlights the versatility of this construction method. The Jackson Residence even won the 2025 People’s Choice Award from the ICF Builder Awards in 2025 and was a first runner up in the unlimited residential category.
