Description
When our customer Monteith Construction approached us about their upcoming residential project at Wrightsville Beach, NC, they knew that their client wanted to utilize the “greenest” and lowest embodied carbon mix we could design. We love it when a customer challenges us to raise the bar of our already cement efficient mixes to be even more sustainable.
Evidence
Our technical department worked alongside our suppliers to develop mixes for the project which represented a 30% reduction in cement content (Titan America). Master Builders MasterGlenium 7920 (Super P) was utilized at a standard slump in order to maintain strength parameters. The SCM’s (SEFA Fly Ash) were increased to 30% based on total powder content to create a more homogenous mix and maximize the carbon mitigation potential of the product. In addition to the special mix design, the majority of the mix constituents are regionally sourced and batched at our Wilmington area certified Green Star plants. We have dubbed this our Carbon Mitigation CM mix. However, I have been pushing to call it our “Carbon Chameleon” mix. “Carbon Carbon Carbon Carbon..Carbon Chameleon” …good luck getting that one out of your head!
All joking aside, we are committed to finding new ways to innovate and strive to make our concrete even more sustainable in the future.
