


CONCRETE INNOVATIONS AWARD PROGRAM
The NRMCA Concrete Innovations Award Program recognizes outstanding achievement in concrete manufacturing, design and construction. People, companies, products and projects that demonstrate outstanding performance in concrete manufacturing, research, design and construction will be awarded for their achievements in helping improve concrete performance while lowering environmental impacts including embodied and operational carbon footprint. Winners were announced at a ceremony on March 14, 2023 in Las Vegas during CONEXPO-CON/AGG.

INNOVATIVE PERSON OR TEAM

Eligibility: Individual or team who made significant contributions to an innovative product, service or project. Must be an employee of an NRMCA member company or an employee of an NRMCA member company must have been part of the team.

Areas of Excellence: Research, product development, tools, methodologies, manufacturing, design, construction, codes and standards.

Judging Criteria: Demonstrate improvements in performance such as improved strength, durability, resilience, energy efficiency and sustainability, including embodied and operational stage carbon footprint reduction.

INNOVATIVE PRODUCT OR SERVICE

Eligibility: Innovative product or service that improves performance and sustainability of concrete. Product or service must be from an NRMCA member company or a member company must have been involved in testing or implementing the product or service.

Areas of Excellence: Advanced quality control, innovative cements, supplementary cementitious materials, admixtures, aggregates, recycling methods, carbon capture and sequestration technologies, measurement tools, etc.

Judging Criteria: Demonstrate improvements in performance, including improved strength, durability, resilience, energy efficiency and sustainability, including embodied and operational carbon footprint reduction. Demonstrate scalability and market viability of the innovative product or service.

INNOVATIVE PROJECT

Eligibility: Building or infrastructure project, substantially designed and built using concrete that demonstrates improved performance and sustainability. An NRMCA member company must have been involved in supplying products or services to the project.

Areas of Excellence: Concrete buildings or infrastructure projects that use advanced quality control, innovative cements, supplementary cementitious materials, admixtures, aggregates, recycling methods, carbon capture and sequestration technologies, measurement tools or innovative designs to improve performance and sustainability.

Judging Criteria: Demonstrate improvements in performance, including improved strength, durability, resilience, energy efficiency and sustainability, including embodied carbon reduction over typical projects of the same type.

INNOVATIVE COMPANY

Eligibility: Company that offers concrete products or services that demonstrate significant improvements in performance and sustainability, including carbon footprint reduction. Must be an NRMCA member company or an NRMCA member must have been significantly involved in supporting the nominated company.

Areas of Excellence: Improvements in overall company performance related to product improvements, design achievements or company wide sustainability initiatives related to environmental and social governance (ESG). Companies who can show measurable improvements through environmental and safety certifications and awards, CSC Responsible Sourcing, Environmental Product Declarations, energy efficiency, etc.

Judging Criteria: Demonstrate improvements in performance and sustainability, including embodied and operational carbon footprint reduction over time through improved products and processes. Some examples include adopting advanced cements, optimized concrete mix designs, improved quality control, improved safety records, working conditions and workforce diversity over time.
