Project Name
Leigh Overland, Nancy Edwards Residence

Description
This modern, fire and storm resistant home is the personal residence of the architect who specializes in designing with ICF. . NRMCA member Dominic DiCenzo was involved. James Ryan with Tremco and Regency construction provided consulting and installation assistance. NRMCA has provided tours and meetings at this home which is also the architects office.
Leigh Overland Architect has been published often for his role in ICF design. He has taught at the Connecticut AIA on ICF/High efficiency construction. His home/office has been the site for dozens of tours to educate the architectural and building community, including Sustainable Fairfield's recent tour of over 50 attendees.
The architect's concrete home is on 40 piles, raised to FEMA standards. Even dramatic flooding will not damage the structure or affect the living spaces. A pneumatic glass elevator stops on each floor. The home is equipped with features that provide comfortable, carefree, and luxurious living. The exterior wall construction is Insulated Concrete Form (ICF). ICF is no more expensive than wood-built homes, but provides much greater energy savings, sound proofing and safety. The project meets green building standards and certified by HERS rater, MaGrann associates and is Net Zero.
Created a durable, comfortable, maintenance free and healthy home
• ICF will far outlast a wood frame home - hurricane and flood resistant.
• ERV system draws fresh air into the home, pulls stale air out
• Interior walls and floor structures are metal framed preventing home loss, in the case of fire
• Home’s soundproofing surpasses wood frame
• No wood in exterior or interior walls to rot nor grow mold
• No termite or insects penetrate ICF
Evidence
The project meets green building standards and certified by HERS rater MaGrann associates and is Net Zero.
The home won the 2022 HOBI award "Best Green Energy Efficient Home by and Architect"
